Beautifully Broken, Boldly Reimagined
Each piece I create is an honest reflection of life—imperfect, vibrant, and full of possibility. Inspired by nature and grounded in authenticity, I turn fragile fragments into joyful, one-of-a-kind works of art.
For centuries, artists have worked with eggshells as a surface and material, from traditional wax-resist pysanky eggs to the mosaic traditions of 15th-century Italy. Kintsugi, which translates to “golden joinery,” is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending fractures with gold, honoring both damage and repair as part of an object’s history.
My work brings these traditions into a contemporary context and is informed by both historical traditions and contemporary practices that explore repair, materiality, and transformation.
Using natural eggshells from chickens, emus, and ostriches, I hand-paint each shell with layers of watercolour, ink, and acrylic. The shells are then intentionally broken and carefully reassembled into abstract compositions, with gold metal leaf highlighting the seams and connections. The work explores themes of imperfection, resilience, and transformation, inviting viewers to see fragility not as weakness, but as strength.
Each piece is completed in a custom-made solid wood frame, crafted to complement the tone, texture, and quiet energy of the work.

A Little About Me
Hi, I’m Kim Schott, I am a watercolour artist from Port Dover, Ontario Canada along the beautiful shores of Lake Erie. I create bright, happy art inspired by the natural world.
Working with broken eggshells is equal parts exciting and complicated. Their curved surfaces make every piece a challenge, and the way paint takes to their porous texture always surprises me. Every piece I create is truly unique - always one of one.
I find joy and inspiration in the contemporary art world and the impressionist painters; Claire Desjardins’ bold abstracts, Mokshini’s playful takes on modern life, Gayle Kabaker’s stunning explorations of feminine beauty, Van Gogh's bold brushwork and incredible use of colour all influence my work.
My art is about celebrating resilience, transformation, and the beauty of imperfection.
